Windows 7 Resource Monitor

Article by Marc Liron - Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience)

The resource monitor in Windows 7 is one of a few handy tools for monitoring your systems performance. In the case of this tool it does this in real time.

It can both collect and display real time information about the:

CPU, Disk, Network and Memory.

If you have been using Windows Vista you will notice that the resource monitor in Windows 7 has been enhanced.

It now provides a greater level of information and monitoring, in addition to the change in layout - for instance the graphs are now on the right hand side of the window.

The Windows 7 resource monitor is a great tool for identifying which applications, services, and other processes are consuming resources.

To access it by going to the Start Menu > Control Panel > Performance Information and Tools > Advanced Tools > Open Resource Monitor

OR

Type  RESMON  into the search box on the Start Menu and select Resource Monitor from the list that appears.
